“I’m sometimes afraid that sooner of later men will get to the conclusion that reading fiction is a waist of time.
But why should this thought frighten me? is it just because I will be one of the victims? its not just this.
Fiction represents a highly intellectual challenge. Even if a machine could be invented that would be capable to relating to us the experiences of a new Raskolnikov, a modern Madam Bovary, or an American Anna Karenina, it will still be interesting to find out what happens to our imagination and its age-old instrument: the pen.”
